Beads of Hope

What would you do if you had endless hours to spend in a hospital bed?

No phone buzzing with plans.

No school bell ringing.

Just four white walls… and time.

So much time.

That’s what Perla had when she was first diagnosed with cancer.

She was only fifteen.

Perla wore a bracelet that was impossible to miss, tiny, flower shaped beads, bright, colorful, and delicate, catching the light with every movement.

Wherever she went, people noticed. Compliments followed her through hallways, waiting rooms, and hospital corridors.

Everyone asked where she got it.

And each time, Perla smiled, shy, but proud, because she had made it herself.

Not just that one. She had made dozens.

Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, phone charms.

All handmade.

All filled with heart.

She even had a store, something she built during treatment, in between appointments, scans, and long stretches of rest.

A few days after people began noticing her bracelet, she returned with one she had chosen as a gift, picked out carefully, one she thought would fit best. She also shared her business card, inviting people to explore her creations online.

Naturally, the question came up: How did this all begin?

Perla’s answer left a lasting impression.

“When I first got diagnosed, I had to stay in my hospital room for more than a month. I was so bored,” she said. “Then one day, I got a gift from you guys, a box of beads. And instead of just sitting there feeling sad, I started making bracelets. First for the nurses. Then for the staff. Then for my friends and family. And then I thought… why not make it into something real?”

And she did.

Today, Perla runs a small business.

She has followers, orders, and enough creative work to keep her busy even during treatment.

But the most powerful moment came when she said:

“I’m not going to stop when my cancer journey ends. I want to grow this. I want to make it bigger. I want to create more.”

Perla is a reminder to everyone that even in the hardest moments, hope is a choice.

That a hospital bed can become a workshop.

That boredom can become inspiration.

And that a simple box of beads can become the beginning of a dream.
