Mira: Our Little Artist of Hope

At just 8 years old, Mira paints like her heart is speaking.

In June 2025, she began treatment at the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) after being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancer that typically affects bones. Between chemotherapy sessions and checkups, Mira’s brush keeps moving, filling canvases with color, courage, and the brightest kind of hope.

When Mira first arrived at CCCL, she was quiet, but her colors were bold. With every visit, she explored new palettes, new textures, and new ways to say “I’m still me.” Her journey reflects the holistic mission of CCCL: to heal the body while nurturing the soul. Alongside her world-class medical treatment, Mira participates in psychosocial support programs, including art classes, play therapy, educational activities, and family counseling, ensuring that healing extends far beyond the hospital walls.

In the art room, her favorite spot is by the window. There, she paints radiant suns and cedar branches, sometimes tiny birds taking flight. Her most recent work, “Sun Over the Mountain,” bursts with gold and sky, a reflection of her resilience and the hope she inspires. Through these creative programs, children like Mira learn to process fear, regain confidence, and reconnect with joy even in the midst of treatment.

Art therapy, in particular, has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression, support emotional regulation, and enhance the coping abilities of children battling serious illnesses. At CCCL, these sessions are led by specialized staff and volunteers who encourage self-expression, laughter, and creativity, restoring light where fear once lived.

We are counting the days until Mira rings the bell to celebrate the end of her treatment. Until that day comes, every brushstroke she paints is a promise: there is light ahead.
